Free Concerts for the Whole Family
For over 20 years KPBX Kids' Concerts have been bringing different genres of music and performances to generations of children. These family concerts are at the heart of the station's mission to provide music awareness and entertainment to our listening region, which compliments our on-air programming. Eight free one-hour concerts are held throughout the year at rotating venues. At each concert, attendees may be treated to a mix of music and historical information. Each KPBX Kids' Concert highlights a musical style. Past concerts have featured classical, jazz, big band, folk, bluegrass, latin, calypso, reggae, klezmer, rockabilly, and lots more. A Tribute to Earl Scruggs with the Panhandle Polecats & banjo picker Christopher Arndt
Saturday, April 12, 2014 1-2 p.m. – FREE at the Bing Crosby Theater, 901 W. Sprague Ave.
Earl Scruggs is the father of the Bluegrass banjo sound, and KPBX pays tribute to the master picker with high-energy Bluegrass music by the Panhandle Polecats with Christopher Arndt.
The Panhandle Polecats are also known as the Little siblings, a family from the panhandle of North Idaho. The three sisters and two brothers have performed bluegrass publicly since 2003. Playing at the April KPBX Kids' Concert are Jenny Little on standup bass, Hank Little on Dobro and harmonica, Molly Wilbur on mandolin, and Bonnie Campbell on guitar.
Joining the Panhandle Polecats for the KPBX Kids' Concert is Christopher Arndt, a Scruggs-style banjo picker from Post Falls who started playing banjo in 2007 and guitar in the summer of ‘08. He has even studied under banjo master Tony Trischka, at his online School of Banjo, a division of the Artistworks Academy of Bluegrass Music. Christopher started playing with The North Idaho Hat Band, a trio formed with his brother and a friend, and now performs around the Northwest with Kevin Pace and the Early Edition.
