Advocates of Net Neutrality Rally in Spokane

Jeremy Burnham/SPR

A group of citizens concerned about the FCC’s recent repealing of net neutrality rallied in front of Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ downtown Spokane office Monday.

“Hey hey, ho ho, McMorris Rodgers has got to go," group members chanted.

The group, Fuse Washington, organized the gathering in front of McMorris Rodgers office because the congresswoman has been a strong supporter of repealing net neutrality.

“We are essentially trying to hold her feet to the fire and get more public attention around this particular issue," said Fuse Washington organizer Garret Havens. "It’s a good week to do it because last week, these rules officially went into effect. In our event here today, we are able to highlight the work that has been done in Washington State. We’re the only state in the country that currently has rules in place that maintain Internet neutrality.”

Washington state’s legislators passed a law in March that protects net neutrality in the state. However, Havens says his organization remains committed to restoring net neutrality nationwide

Among those who spoke was Spokane Democratic state Senator Andy Billig. McMorris Rodgers was not in her office.
