This Thanksgiving holiday weekend, while family are around, take the opportunity to record family stories. NPR stations are partnering with StoryCorps to grow the American Folklife Center's collection of interviews.
Morning Edition listeners are familiar with the StoryCorps segments that air every Friday. The project has a free StoryCorps mobile app that turns smart phones or most tablets into a personal recording booth and submits recordings directly to the Library of Congress for archive and preservation. Conversations are also shared to StoryCorps.me.
StoryCorps hopes to make The Great Thanksgiving Listen a national tradition while also collecting more interviews in one weekend than it has in its entire 12-year history. Since 2003, StoryCorps has archived more than 60,000 interviews as it seeks to record, share and preserve stories as told by older generations.
