Piano Bench

KPBX: Tuesday 11am-12pm

A mix of live performance with new and classic recordings from our library that shows the great beauty and scope of the world of the piano, its players and the boundless variety of its music.

Piano Technician Ken Eschete came to our KPBX studio to talk about his restoration of the late-1890s Bluthner grand piano that belonged to musicologist and Spokane musical legend, Dr, Hans Moldenhauer. His conversation with Jim Tevenan is illustrated with music of the late Romantic era played on the Bluthner in Ken's shop by two of the top regional pianists, Greg Preseley and Dr. Jody Graves.

Lively, short pieces by some of the region's best pianists showcased different sounds and styles the piano produces. Jim also explored the history of the piano, an amazingly complex musical machine.

The summer concerts are possible in part by event donors Harvard Park Children's Learning Center North, Numerica Credit Union, Rocket Bakeries, and Pizza Pipeline.
