Meet Spokane City Council candidate Kathryn Alexander

Kathryn Alexander

The ballots are out for Washington’s August 1 primary election. Yes, it’s the middle of summer and an election is less than two weeks away. It’s an odd-year election, which usually puts the focus on local candidates. In Spokane, one city council seat is up for grabs in each of the three districts. We contacted each of the candidates running in those districts and we’re featuring those who agreed to interviews.

Today, we feature Kathryn Alexander, who's running for a seat in the city's Northeast district.

Coal and oil trains pass through Spokane daily, but that could change by the end of the year. Spokane’s city council will take public testimony Monday on a proposed ballot initiative that would prohibit coal and oil shipment by rail through specific areas of the city.

Spokane County Proposition One is asking voters for a Renewal Sales and Use Tax for Emergency Communications Systems and Facilities.

The Spokane County Communications Center is a busy place with emergency operators taking both 911 calls, as well as Crime Check calls for less threatening emergencies. This call center has been in place since 2008, and was funded by one tenth of one percent added to sales tax in the county. The center collects information from callers, and then coordinates response by police, sheriffs, and fire personnel.
