The members of the Spokane Watercolor Society display their diverse styles in this exceptional show juried by area artist, Linda Hyatt-Cancel. Awards in excess of $700 will be given at the First Friday Opening Reception on September 4, 5:00-8:00 p.m. where you can meet this talented group of water media artists. This is a wonderful FREE "family and friends" activity.

In the month of September the members of River Ridge Association of Fine Art (RRAFA) explore the theme of Water. To an artist water is fascinating and can be difficult to paint. The artists in the show have used many ideas, different medium and sizes, traditional styles to abstract, up close or far away for viewers to contemplate. Whatever emotion the art evokes, wistful, happy, contemplative and more, this is a show you will enjoy!

And don't forget to come by the Historic Liberty Building on First Friday Sept 4 from 5-8 pm to meet the artists in person!

For 20 years Trackside Studio Ceramics Art Gallery has presented fine quality monthly exhibits with a focus on ceramics. Highlighting our 2026 calendar, this September exhibit, opens First Friday, September 4th from 5 - 8 pm will feature 5 noted ceramic artists from across the United States including local ceramics artist Collista Krebs from Spokane, WA., Other included artists are: Heather Lepp - Missoula, Montana, Amy Sanders - Lincoln, Nebraska, Deb Schwartzkopf - Seattle, WA, and Zach Tate - Jonesboro, Arkansas. These artists are highly respected leaders and educators in our national ceramics community working with clay on, but most importantly off the pottery wheel. "HandBuilt" continues through September 30, with regular gallery hours Wednesday through Friday, 11 AM - 5 PM.

Barbara Anderson & Patty Driscoll both work in soft pastels and often choose similar subject matter for their pieces. Friends for close to thirty years, creative souls and art lovers, they decided to embark on a creative journey after raising their families. Their very first pastel class was at a local art school, and they were the only adults in the class. But they were hooked! They traveled and learned together with many professional artists which put them on the right track. In 2024, they were thrilled to have been offered a sixth month residency at the Hive, where sharing a studio allowed the experimentation, collaboration and creation of this body of work.

Functional Art is the theme of September's First Friday Show, "HANDS - CELEBRATING THE MAKERS". This exhibit honors the rediscovery and appreciation of how art, in it's aesthetic & visually pleasing form, can be creative yet useful; can impart beauty and practicality, merging artistry with the function of our daily routines. Come meet the artists, bring a friend or two, and join us in this celebration of one of the oldest forms of art.

“WOVEN HERITAGE” brings together paintings by Red Matthews and Erin Lang alongside the woven fiber works of Kimber Follevaag.
The exhibition considers how personal, cultural, and family histories are not static artifacts, but living guides that continue to resonate as we move through our current lives. Each artist engages that inheritance differently — intentionally or spontaneously — and the works on view trace how the messages and meanings of personal heritage continue to speak through paintbrush, fiber, and the presentation of the finished work.

An opening artist reception will take place on Spokane’s First Friday, September 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will run from Sept 4 - 26, 2026. Gallery Hours are WED - SAT, 11am - 6pm

The work presented in this show consists of
primarily still life and constructed reality imagery. My hope is that these images evoke both an
emotional response and intellectual connection on some level, while leaving room for the viewer
to explore personal narrative and find their own individual meaning or interpretation. My
process generally consists of some style of light painting in capture and composite in post. I use
light as my paintbrush and the computer as a canvas to construct and manipulate what I
physically see into what I see in my mind’s eye; to explore without boundaries.

We will be discussing “Spear" by Nicola Griffith at the September meeting.
