KPBX Rebroadcasts Live Spokane Production of 'It's A Wonderful Life' Before New Year's

On Christmas Eve Spokane Civic Theatre presented the story of Frank Capra's beloved holiday film in a unique setting -- a 1940s-era radio play, complete with live sound effects and actors voicing multiple characters.

As ticket holders experience the one-night-only show live on Christmas Eve in the beautiful Bing Crosby Theater, the show streamed live on the internet to listeners through KPBX.org. Unfortunately, heavy snow at the tower site cut power and access on the afternoon of Dec. 24, and 91.1 FM was off the air for more than a day.

SPR will broadcast the radio show twice: Wednesday, December 30 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. (the Opera will start late) and at noon on New Year's Eve, Thursday Dec. 31.

The cast from Spokane Civic Theatre is directed by regional favorite Troy Nickerson. Joe Landry wrote the script combining depression-era radio with the world of Bedford Falls.
This unique way to experience the beloved story of George Bailey's journey from hopelessness to peace during a very long and magical Christmas Eve is a joint production of the Friends Of the Bing and Spokane Civic Theatre. SPR is proud to be a media sponsor and does not receive any proceeds from the event.

Tickets are available at TicketsWest and the Spokane Civic Theatre box office.

* In the event of technical difficulties on Dec. 24, KPBX will air switch to a dress rehearsal recorded earlier in the week.
