Three challengers are looking to unseat Spokane city councilman Breean Beggs in Spokane’s second District. All three opponents are expressing concerns that the current city council is spending too much time on issues that are outside the purview of what the council should be focusing on.

Today we look at candidate Andy Dunau.


Spokane voters will decide in November whether to allow the shipment of coal and oil by rail through the city. The city council voted in favor of a special election in November.

Candace Mumm is the incumbent seeking a second term for the Northwest Spokane city council seat that is up for election this year. Her opponents are Brian Burrow and Matthew Howes. Howes initially agreed to an interview but didn’t respond to followup emails to schedule it. Burrow didn’t respond to our request.

▪    Washington’s primary election is August 1. Three Spokane city council seats are open this year. We’ll talk with candidates Kathryn Alexander, Kate Burke and Candace Mumm.
    ▪    The Idaho Supreme Court has upheld Governor Butch Otter’s veto of a repeal of the state grocery tax. We’ll talk about it with University of Idaho Law Professor Katherine Macfarlane.
